Eye opening ideas, when going for a mentor, can be determined by a lot of things. Find someone that is like you, someone with a similar set of strengths and skills you want to emulate. Otherwise, you’ll just end up frustrated. Spend some time finding the right person. In fact, have several candidates before committing to a single mentor. Make sure you understand his/her strengths and weaknesses. Set your expectations realistically. In the first meeting, did she/he begin the meeting by encouraging you or telling you what to do? Did she ask questions, or wait to provide answers?

If a mentor can’t be a friend, then he’s probably not a mentor. Finding ways to solidify the bond you’ve created will only strengthen the relationship. In order for it to be a real mentorship, you have to commit to the relationship. Come hell or high water, you’re going to make it work.

The minimum amount of time the relatiohship must last is 6 months but there is no maximum. Some mentoring relationships last a lifetime depending on the willingness of the two parties. The mentoring connection may last for only a short time if the mentee’s need is to reach a specific goal.
Mentors become trusted advisers and role models – people who have “been there” and “done that.” They support and encourage their mentees by offering suggestions and knowledge, both general and specific. The goal is to help mentees improve their skills and, hopefully, advance their careers.
Mentors can be connectors. Playing a dual role of teacher and connector, a mentor can provide access to those within your industry that are willing to invest in your company, offer their skills and expertise, introduce you to talent that can fuel your business and help you get closer to your target audience.
This is just my own opinion for an eye opening mentor. There are lot’s of mentors in each industry. Go for the best according to you.
